Gygratun, a recreational Farm in Aenes

Dernière mise à jour : 31 mars 2020

Gygratun on grey sky day.

I'm discovering Norway, the country of wilderness. Norwegian landscapes look different than the Swedish ones, mountains supersede pine forests and my first fjord is before my eyes. I'm speechless.

Heading West but thinking of Sweden where I spent such a wonderful time.

Here I am, the place is amazing in between fjords and mountains. Hulda the owner is there to greet me. What a kind and energetic woman, she shows me the place and the room where I will stay for two weeks. Leif, Hulda's husband is back from work, he is a tall man a real friendly Norwe"giant"!

For Hulda and Leif, hosting people is a routine.

They started this project few years ago and have hosted, since then, more than 200 people from around the world, so you can imagine how kind and open minded they are.

I immediately felt like I was home.

Let's talk about daily tasks. What's on the schedule? We had different responsibilities like: gardening, general maintenance, cooking, feeding the animals. (chickens, goats, rabbits and the horse)

The main house and the home garden.

Here they grown their own fruits and vegetables and we got to do it as well. We all know that, unfortunately, the things we buy in supermarket are often not that healthy... That's why, in my opinion, it's very important to learn more about gardening and how to grow vegetables. Lettuces, herbs, potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, wild cherries, black current... so delicious.

Fresh eggs every mornings.

I learned how to bake bread, I'm proud because my first bread was quite good. Every morning you could pick some fresh eggs from the chickens, which was really great. with every day I wished more and more to have this kind of lifestyle.

My main mission was to finish the barn's roof. It was my first roofing work and this reminded me one of the goals of my trip, learning new things. I usually like challenge and I'm pretty adaptive which worked well for this kind of stay . Few days later, the job was done. Thanks Leif for trusting me ;)

During your spare time and your days off, you have a lot of opportunities to hike around and discover the beautiful Norwegian wilderness. Some of the most stunning places are close.

The famous "Trolltunga, a breathtaking place.

Folgefonna Glacier

Folgefonna National Park is just around the corner. You can go for a hike to the third biggest glacier of Norway and feel the power of nature there.

You will feel so tiny next to this giant.

Bondhus valley

Svelgabreen valley

What an experience when you find yourself here alone, in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. Civilisation looks far away. You can breathe, take your time and just relax, enjoy your day...
